20 FLASS Scholars named among World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University

FLASS is proud to announce that 20 of its scholars have been recognised among the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists in the 2025 ranking published by Stanford University, with 13 of them ranked within the top 1% scientists. At the University level, a total of 54 scholars from EdUHK were listed on the top 2% list, an increase of five compared to the previous year. This reflects ongoing enhancement of EdUHK scholars’ research capabilities and growing recognition on a global stage.

FLASS scholars on the Top 2% list represent 12 different professional fields, including five in Education and three in Environmental Science. Other fields in which FLASS scholars have excelled include Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, Forestry, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Neurology, Statistics and Geriatrics. These results show that although Education is a core strength for FLASS, the faculty is also contributing across a wide range of research disciplines.

The faculty includes scholars from many academic backgrounds. By drawing on this diversity, we will continue to create research outputs, from publications and creative works to knowledge transfer and policy advice, for the benefit of society and beyond.

Professor Li Wai-keung, Dean of FLASS, commented, “The latest list highlights the research strengths of our scholars. While we celebrate this achievement, our team will keep working to address real-world problems through collaborative research that connects academia and industry. The faculty includes scholars from many academic backgrounds. By drawing on this diversity, we will continue to create research outputs, from publications and creative works to knowledge transfer and policy advice, for the benefit of society and beyond.”

In May this year, EdUHK announced its Strategic Plan 2025-2031, shaping the blueprint for “Education Futures” across four key focus areas. These include nurturing educators and talent equipped with positive values and future skills, and creating far-reaching impact through research innovation and the sharing and transfer of knowledge. FLASS remains committed to these aims.

The list is compiled each year by a research team at Stanford University using Scopus data. It takes into account citation counts, co-authorship adjustments, and author rankings, focusing on true academic impact rather than only the number of publications.
